Определение: Профессиональные преподаватели обучают теории и практике одной или более дисциплин на различных уровнях образования, проводят исследования и улучшают или разрабатывают концепции, теории и методы преподавания, относящиеся к их конкретной дисциплине, а также готовят научные доклады и учебники. Количество преподавателей разбито в соответствии со ступенями образования. Начиная с академического года 2012-2013 для большинства стран уровни образования в данной таблице определены в соответствии с МСКО 2011 (ранее - в соответствии с МСКО 1997 ). Начальное образование относится к уровню 1, среднее образование к уровням 2,3 и 4, третичное образование к уровням 5-8.
В МСКО 2011 некоторые программы отнесены к иному уровню,чем в предыдущей версии. Такие различия могут оказывать воздействие на данные временного ряда. Подробнее о соответствии МСКО 2011 и МСКО 1997 см. здесь.
