One tonne-kilometre represents the transport of one tonne of goods by rail over a distance of one kilometre.
The distance to be covered is the distance actually travelled on the considered network. In cases where this is not available, the distance charged or estimated may be shown. Refers only to the tkm performed on a country's territory.
